Search “how much is a four wheeler” and you get the same answer everywhere: $2,000 to $15,000 new. One 2026 cost guide puts youth ATVs at $1,099–$2,500 and a 110cc at $1,500–$1,800. Those numbers are not invented — they describe a different shelf of the market than the one most families shop. The first row is the useful one. A factory-fresh 110cc quad with electric start and a throttle limiter starts at $659. Not used, not a clearance unit — about half what the published guides say a 110cc costs.
How much is a four-wheeler for a kid?
Budget $650 to $1,000 for a first quad, $900 to $1,300 for something a ten- to fourteen-year-old will not outgrow in a season. The jump from 110cc to 125cc buys a taller seat, bigger wheels and usually reverse — which matters more than the extra power, because a kid stuck nose-first in a ditch cannot back a quad out by hand.
Three things drive price inside the youth band, and none of them is horsepower:
- •Wheel size. A 6″ and an 8″ wheel on the same 125cc engine can be $200 apart — taller seat, more ground clearance.
- •Rims and brakes. Alloy rims and hydraulic discs push a listing up a tier. Steel rims and drum brakes hold it down.
- •Reverse. Almost everything above $850 has it. Below that, read the listing line by line.
Engine size is the honest guide to rider size, not the age label. We carry machines titled “kids ATV” with a manufacturer age note of 16 and up, and 125cc quads whose own listing says 12 and up. How much is a 4 wheeler for adults?
Full-size starts at $1,499 — a 149cc automatic with CVT belt drive, hydraulic disc brakes and LED lighting, on a real adult frame rather than a stretched youth quad. From there $1,800 to $2,400 gets you 169–177cc with EFI on some models, and roughly $2,000 to $3,000 covers the 197–250cc sport and utility machines.
Four-wheel drive is the cliff. Selectable 4WD with shaft drive and strut suspension jumps to $4,599–$4,799, and only three models we list are built that way. Hauling feed across a wet pasture, that is where the money goes. Riding trails on weekends, a 2WD 200 does the job for less than half.
What the sticker price leaves out
Three things sit outside the number on the product page, and they are what people call us about:
- •Paperwork. Dealer-endorsed MCO / title processing is a separate line item at checkout, usually $39. If you plan to register the machine, you want it.
- •Assembly. These arrive crated and partly built — a 149cc adult quad comes in a carton around 62 x 36 x 31 inches. Handlebars, front wheels, rack and battery are normally the owner’s job: an afternoon with basic tools, or add an assembly service instead.
- •Gear. Helmet, goggles, gloves. Budget $150 upward for a child and more for an adult. Nobody regrets this line.
One warning from the phones: the battery. Most of these arrive with the battery dry or disconnected, and the number one “it won’t start” call in the first week is a battery nobody charged. Charge it fully before you turn the key, not after it fails.
Is a used four-wheeler cheaper?
Usually not, at this end of the market. A used quad in decent shape on the local classifieds lands around $700 to $1,500 — exactly where a new 110cc or 125cc sits, warranty included. Used makes sense above about $2,500, where the depreciation on a big-brand machine is worth inheriting. Below that you are paying new-ish money for someone else’s wear. The common mistake is buying up. A parent budgets $1,500, sees it stretch to a 149cc adult frame, and puts an eleven-year-old on a machine they cannot hold up at a standstill. Match displacement to the rider, spend what is left on gear, and buy the next size when it is actually needed.
