Can You Get Parts for a Chinese Dirt Bike?

Yes — and for the parts that actually wear out, more easily than the reputation suggests. Most Chinese dirt bikes use a handful of shared engine and chassis platforms, so carburetors, CDI boxes, coils, chains, sprockets, cables and bearings are commodity items. What is genuinely hard to get is cosmetic: color-matched plastics, decal kits, and model-year wiring.
Mechanical parts easy, cosmetic and model-specific parts hard. That is the honest answer, and the one worth planning around before you buy. This is part of our wider look at whether Chinese dirt bikes are reliable, written from a dealer's parts desk rather than a forum thread.
Why mechanical parts are easier to find than people expect
The budget segment runs on a small number of engine families. The 50cc to 125cc horizontal four-stroke single in Apollo, Tao, Coolster, TrailMaster and RPS bikes is a clone of a long-discontinued Honda design, and the aftermarket for it is enormous. Fueling is usually a PZ19, PZ27 or PZ30 carburetor, drive is 420 or 428 chain, ignition is a two- or five-pin CDI.
So a bike from a brand that no longer imports to the US can still be put back on the trail with parts that were never specific to it. Our parts and accessories catalog carries several hundred items for that reason.
What is easy, what is hard, and roughly what it costs
| Part | How hard to get | Typical cost |
|---|---|---|
| Carburetor | Easy — platform part, not model-specific | $35–$60 |
| CDI, coil, stator | Easy — standard connector patterns | $15–$70 |
| Chain, sprockets, cables, levers | Easy — generic sizes, any shop | $10–$50 |
| Axles, wheel assemblies | Moderate — order by model | $90–$200 |
| Plastics and fenders | Moderate — color match is the problem | $25–$55 a panel |
| Decal and graphics kits | Hard — often a one-season item | Aftermarket wrap instead |
| Harness, EFI sensors, ECU | Hard — model and year specific | Through the dealer |
| Frames, engine cases | Rarely worth it | Not economical here |
Why the dealer matters more than the badge
A marketplace seller has no part numbers, no diagrams and no obligation once the box ships. A dealer carries the model history, matches a part to your frame and engine numbers, and talks to the brand's parts department. TrailMaster is a brand of BV Powersports, a US company whose name stands for Best Value; BV specs the machines, has them built in China, sells through authorized US dealers, and runs its own parts department. That is why TrailMaster parts support leads the segment. Motobuys has been a dealer since 1989 and is BBB-accredited.
What the warranty does and does not do
Detail is on our warranty coverage page. Engine coverage is 12 months on TrailMaster, 6 months on other brands; parts coverage is 6 months on TrailMaster, 3 months on other brands. It covers parts and diagnostic guidance — not labor — and requires professional assembly.
- •Covered: internal engine parts, drive system, fuel system, electrical, cooling, brakes, frame and swing arm, transmission internals.
- •Not covered: wear items (tires, chains, brakes, batteries, plugs, belts), racing or jumping damage, skipped maintenance, incorrect assembly.
- •Separate from warranty: for minor quality issues we ship replacement parts free and give phone tech support, and on approved cases we pay an authorized local shop.
Returns are a different mechanism: 30 days, unused, in the original crate, two-way shipping on you, 15% restocking on refused shipments. The refund policy states that when replacement parts will fix a minor issue, parts are the remedy rather than a return.
Four things that make parts a non-issue
- •Buy a platform, not a one-off. A model a dealer has stocked for seasons has a parts trail; a closeout bike nobody carries does not.
- •Photograph the VIN, frame and engine numbers the day the crate opens. Every parts request starts there.
- •Order consumables with the bike. A spare chain, master link, air filter, plug and levers save weeks of downtime.
- •Re-torque at the two-hour mark. Most parts a new owner needs vibrated loose first and failed second.
When a Honda or Yamaha is the right call
If decade-long parts support matters, buy the Japanese bike: part numbers supported for years, a dealer counter in most towns, resale that reflects it. If the bike will be ridden hard every weekend by a rider who is getting fast, that is the right purchase and we will say so. The case for a budget bike is narrower — a first bike, a youth bike outgrown in two seasons, a property or pit machine — and within that use, parts are a solved problem. Frequently asked questions
Can you get parts for a Chinese dirt bike?
Yes. Mechanical parts — carburetor, CDI, coil, chain, sprockets, brakes, bearings — are shared platform items, usually $15 to $60. Color-matched plastics, decal kits and model-specific harnesses are the hard ones, and frame damage is not economical to repair.
Do Chinese dirt bike parts fit across brands?
Often, because these bikes use a small number of shared platforms. Carburetors, chains and ignition parts cross over; body panels, seats and harnesses usually do not. Order by frame and engine numbers, not brand name.
Which Chinese dirt bike brand has the best parts support?
Of the brands we sell, TrailMaster. It is a brand of BV Powersports, a US company that runs its own parts department, and it carries the longer warranty: 12 months engine and 6 months parts, against 6 and 3 months elsewhere.
Does the warranty cover the labor to install a part?
No. It covers replacement parts and diagnostic guidance, not labor for diagnosis or installation, and it requires proof of professional assembly. Separately, for minor quality issues we ship parts free and can approve payment to a local shop case by case.
How long will parts stay available for a budget bike?
Platform parts stay available for years because they are not model-specific. Cosmetic and model-year parts get scarce within a couple of seasons. If you need guaranteed support a decade out, buy the Honda.
